AUTOESCAPE / PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

A clear explanation of browser-based tool processing, website measurement, guide readership and the information you share when contacting AutoEscape.

Who is responsible?

AutoEscape is operated by Noah in the United Kingdom. This policy applies to autoescape.online, including its tools, Guides section and contact page. For privacy questions or requests, email support@autoescape.online.

External sites have their own privacy practices. This policy describes AutoEscape’s services and the choices provided for them.

Text entered into the tools

The HTML, JSON String, URL, Regex and Markdown conversion code runs in your browser. It does not send editor text to a conversion API, create a server-side history of your snippets, or deliberately save those snippets in cookies or local storage.

Copy places output on your device’s clipboard when you choose it. Download creates a text file on your device. Browser extensions, clipboard managers and other software can have independent behavior.

The site’s analytics integration records page measurement only. It does not send editor input, converted output or the contents of contact messages as analytics events. Avoid putting personal details in page URLs and do not paste secrets into an unfamiliar device or website environment.

Contact messages

When you email us or use the Contact Form 7 form, we process the information you provide, which can include your name, email address, subject, message and relevant supporting details. The form’s required fields identify what is needed for submission.

We use this information to answer enquiries, assess reports, correct content and handle privacy requests. Ordinary correspondence is processed on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating the site and providing relevant support, taking your interests and rights into account. Processing necessary to fulfil a legal obligation is based on that obligation.

Contact messages are handled through our website and email services; they are not processed only in your browser like the tool editor. Sending a support request does not sign you up for marketing. Please do not include passwords, API keys or unnecessary sensitive information.

Website delivery and technical records

Visiting pages sends information to the server needed to deliver the website. Hosting and operational services may record request details such as IP addresses, timestamps, requested resources, browser information, errors and security events.

Where these records are used, the purposes are to operate the site, investigate problems, prevent abuse and protect the service. Our basis is legitimate interests in maintaining a working, secure website, subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not use tool-editor contents as server log entries.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4 is the website-measurement service selected for AutoEscape. It runs only when it has been enabled for the site and you allow analytics through Privacy settings. If you reject analytics, the site’s integration does not load Google’s analytics script or send a page-view event.

Where enabled and permitted, Google Analytics can process page addresses and titles, referral information, approximate location, browser and device information, cookie identifiers and visit/session information. Google also receives technical information necessary to receive a request. This measurement helps us understand which tools and guides are useful and where the reading experience can improve.

Our supplied configuration uses measurement-only page views, removes query strings and fragments from page addresses before sending them, and disables Google signals and advertising personalisation signals. It does not include form-content tracking, user-ID tracking or session replay. We rely on consent for this analytics configuration, not a general assumption that analytics is exempt from cookie rules.

Google’s own processing is explained in Google’s Privacy Policy and its information about partner sites and apps.

Cookies and your choices

The tools do not need cookies for conversion. The site’s privacy controls use local storage to remember whether you allow analytics. Where you allow Google Analytics, its cookies can distinguish visits and maintain measurement information.

You can reject analytics without losing access to the tools or guides. Use Privacy settings in the footer to change your choice. Withdrawing permission stops future measurement through the site’s integration and removes matching Google Analytics cookies accessible to this site; it does not erase information already sent to Google.

Read the Cookie Policy for the storage list, configured durations and controls. Browser cookie settings and Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on offer additional controls.

Advertising and commercial changes

Display advertising is not currently active. Mediavine is a possible future advertising provider, not a claim of approval, a live partnership or an existing data-sharing arrangement.

Before introducing ads or another commercial integration, we will update the relevant disclosures and implement the provider’s applicable consent and privacy choices. The current analytics controls are not an advertising-consent platform, and they must not be treated as permission for future advertising tracking.

Who may handle information?

We use service providers needed for hosting and operating WordPress, email delivery and contact processing. Google handles information from Google Analytics where that service is enabled and you permit it. These recipients process information for the relevant service, subject to their role and applicable terms.

We do not sell contact enquiries or tool-editor text. Information may be disclosed where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a valid request or establish, exercise or defend legal rights. We do not publish a reader’s support message merely because it was submitted.

International processing

Online hosting, email and Google services can involve processing in countries outside the United Kingdom. A service being accessible from the UK does not establish that all of its infrastructure is in the UK.

Where a restricted transfer of personal data occurs, appropriate arrangements are required under UK data protection law. These may include an applicable adequacy arrangement or approved contractual safeguards, depending on the provider and destination. You can contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your enquiry or the services you use; we do not claim that every transfer uses one identical mechanism.

How long information is retained

We keep contact correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to deal with the enquiry, any related follow-up, and legitimate record-keeping or legal obligations. Relevant factors include whether a matter is resolved, whether further correspondence is expected, and whether a complaint, dispute or legal requirement makes continued retention necessary. Information should not be kept indefinitely simply because storage is available.

Technical records are retained according to the operational or security purpose and the service’s configured retention cycle. Backup copies can remain until the relevant backup cycle expires; they are not intended as a permanent active archive of enquiries.

Google Analytics uses automatic retention controls for user- and event-level records. The intended retention for this user- and event-level data is two months. Aggregated reports can remain available for longer because they are not covered by the same retention control. Analytics cookies and the privacy-choice record have separate durations described in the Cookie Policy.

The workbench itself does not keep a site-side archive of converted text. Files you download and information on your clipboard remain under your device’s handling.

Your rights

Depending on the processing and circumstances, you may have rights to access personal information, correct it, request erasure or restriction, object to processing and receive certain information in a portable format. These rights are subject to applicable conditions and exceptions.

Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Use the footer control for analytics choices, and email support@autoescape.online for other privacy requests. We may need proportionate information to locate a record or verify a request.

You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. See ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint for information about raising a concern.

Changes to this policy

We will review this policy when the tools, site services, analytics configuration or advertising arrangements materially change. The update date identifies the published version. Contact us if a description is unclear or you need more detail about a particular service.
